In United States of America, Orgatma and its sister concern brand Smart Sakhi—led by Passionate Team from Satara & Visionary Team from Chicago respectively—have come together as a powerful force to promote sustainable, residue-free food products from Maharashtra, India. Founded in 2017, Smart Sakhi is a social enterprise based in Schaumburg, Illinois, with a mission to empower Indian farmers, especially women, through organic farming and direct global market access.
The Global Collaboration of Orgatma & Smart Sakhi under the mentorship of Garje Marathi has significantly impacted farming communities in Satara district of Maharashtra by opening doors to the U.S. market for authentic, chemical-free Maharashtrian food products and has played an pivotal role in bringing Maharashtra’s Feel and Traditions to the USA.
The journey began modestly with a 100 kg shipment flown from India to the U.S., where Smart Sakhi introduced the products—primarily to Indian families, especially those from Marathi communities. Within 10–12 days, the shipment was completely sold out, encouraging a second test batch of 400 kg, which was again sold in less than a month. Though air freight was not cost-effective, these pilot runs validated strong consumer demand.
The third and more ambitious shipment of 2,500 kg via sea freight included a broader range of traditional Maharashtrian products. The response was overwhelming, with glowing reviews highlighting the authenticity, quality, and cultural connection these products delivered.
By collecting feedback from every customer, the team gained valuable insights into the preferences and expectations of the Indian diaspora in the U.S.—especially those yearning for a taste of home. The trust and satisfaction stemmed from Orgatma’s commitment to traditional, quality sourcing, and Smart Sakhi’s commitment to empower farmer women and seamless distribution of their products in U.S.
